The 19th Asian Games will start on September 23 in Hangzhou, People’s Republic of China. The grand opening ceremony will be held at the Hangzhou Olympic Sports Center Stadium, also known as the Big Lotus.
Originally built as a football stadium in 2018, this state-of-the-art facility features an impressive seating capacity of 80,000 spectators.
During the opening ceremony of the 2023 Asian Games, a tribute to China’s cultural heritage will blend seamlessly with a celebration of the nation’s contemporary spirit. The performance will include elements of artificial intelligence and environmentally friendly technology.
Indian flag bearers
The Indian Olympic Association (IOA) has announced the names of the joint flag bearers for the upcoming Asian Games in Hangzhou. The record-breaking 655-strong Indian team will be led by hockey captain Harmanpreet Singh and Olympic bronze medalist boxer Lovlina Borgohain.
Harmanpreet Singh, known globally as one of the best hockey players, won a bronze medal at the Tokyo Olympics. His achievement brought an end to India’s 41-year drought of medals in hockey on the Olympic stage.
On the other hand, Lovlina Borgohain won bronze at the Tokyo Olympics in the 69 kg category, and also recently won gold in the 75 kg category at the Women’s World Boxing Championships held in New Delhi.
The Asian Games, which host the largest Indian delegation ever, are considered a crucial test for the country’s athletes, especially in the run-up to the 2024 Paris Olympics, Indian news agency PTI reported.
