The 2023 Asian Games is set to be a spectacle for cricket fans. The event, being held in Hangzhou, China, will feature men’s and women’s T20 cricket tournaments. With top seeded teams like India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh going straight into the quarter-finals, the stage is set for some exciting cricket matches.
Cricket was part of the Asian Games in 2010 and 2014 but was absent in 2018. The sport is returning after a five-year hiatus, adding to the excitement and anticipation.
Men’s Cricket Championship
The men’s T20 cricket tournament will begin on September 27 and conclude with the bronze and gold medal matches on October 7. The tournament will feature 15 teams, including the top-seeded nations that will begin their journey from the quarter-finals. The remaining 11 teams will compete in the group stage, and the winners will join the top four in the quarter-finals.
The men’s T20 cricket tournament at the 2023 Asian Games has been structured to include group stages and direct entry to the quarter-finals. The teams were classified into four groups in the preliminary stage.
The first group consists of Afghanistan and Mongolia. The second group includes Cambodia, Japan and Nepal. The third group includes Hong Kong, Singapore and Thailand. The fourth group includes Malaysia, Bahrain and the Maldives.
Adding to the excitement, the top-seeded teams – India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh – were granted direct entry to the quarter-finals, bypassing the group stages.
Women’s Cricket Championship
The women’s T20 cricket event will be held from September 19 to 25. Like the men’s tournament, the top-seeded teams were granted direct entry to the quarter-finals. The remaining teams are divided into two groups, and after the quarter-final and quarter-final matches, the top eight matches will be decided.
The first group includes Indonesia and Mongolia, while the second group includes Hong Kong and Malaysia. Once again, the top seeded teams (India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh) were given direct entry into the quarter-finals.
