
Paralympic champion Sumit Antil on Wednesday clinched a gold medal in the F64 javelin event at the Asian Paralympics in Hangzhou, clearing a world record of 73.29 meters on the third day of competition. It was the most productive day for India as they bagged 24 medals, of which 17 and all six gold medals came from athletics.
India finished the second day in sixth place in the standings, one point behind Tuesday, with 15 gold, 20 silver and 29 bronze, behind China (299: 117 gold, 96 silver and 86 bronze), Iran (73) and Japan (68). Thailand (63) and Uzbekistan (55).

The Indians swept all three medals in the men’s F54/55/56 discus event with Neeraj Yadav winning gold at the Games and achieving an Asian record distance of 38.56 metres. Yogesh Kathuniya (42.13m) and Muthuraja (35.06m) came second and third respectively.
Ankur Dhamma became the first Indian to win two gold medals in a single edition of the Asian Para Games, clinching first place in the men’s T11 1500m with a time of 4:27.70. He had also won gold in the men’s T11 5,000m on Tuesday.
Another Indian, Sundar Singh Gurjar, also set a new world record in the men’s F46 javelin throw as he sent his javelin to a distance of 68.60 meters on his way to winning the gold medal. The previous world record of 67.79 meters was held by Dinesh Modianselage Herath of Sri Lanka.
In fact, the Indians swept all three medals in the men’s F46 javelin, with Rinku (67.08m) and Ajit Singh (63.52m) winning silver and bronze respectively.
It was 1-2 for the Indians in the women’s T11 1500m event, with Rakshitha Raju (5:21.45) and Kilaka Lalitha (5:48.85) taking gold and silver respectively. Rakshitha won gold in the same event at the 2018 Asian Para Games in Jakarta.
Hani and Nimisha Suresh Chakungalparambil added gold medals in the men’s F37/38 javelin and women’s T47 long jump events.
Hani achieved a Games record of 55.97 metres, while Nimisha cleared 5.15 metres, raising India’s tally of gold medals to 15.
Pooja won the silver medal in the women’s F54/55 discus throw with a distance of 18.17m, while Narayan Thakur and Shriyansh Trivedi bagged the bronze medal in the men’s T35 200m and men’s T37 200m with times of 29.83 and 25.26 respectively.
The Indians finished second and third in both the men’s T13 1,500m and men’s F47 shot put.
Sharath Shankarappa Makanahalli (4:13.60) and Balwant Singh Rawat (4:20.58) bagged silver and bronze while Rana Suman (14.42) and Hokatu Hotosi Seema (13.94) finished second and third respectively.
In Paralympic table tennis, Bhavina Patel, medalist at the Tokyo Paralympic Games, won the bronze medal in women’s singles category 4 after losing to Chinese Gu Xiaodan 1-3 (7-11, 11-6, 6-11, 7-11). In the semi-finals.
India has won three medals in Paralympic shooting, two silver and one bronze. Unarmed throwers Sheetal Devi and Sarita won the silver medal after losing 150-152 to the Chinese pair of Lin Yushan and Zhang Lu.
The other silver medal was won by the men’s compound doubles pair of Rakesh Kumar and Suraj Singh after losing 150-155 to the Chinese pair of Ai Xinliang and He Zihao.
Harvinder Singh and Sahil won the bronze medal in the men’s doubles event after defeating the Thai pair of Hanryuchai Nitsiri and Pornchai Phimthong 6-0. Harvinder had won a bronze medal at the Tokyo Paralympics and a gold medal at the 2018 Asian Para Games.
In badminton, Pramod Bhagat and Manisha Ramdas won the bronze medal in the mixed doubles SL3-SU5 after losing in the semi-final match to the Indonesian duo of Liani Ratri Uktila and Hikmat Ramadani 19-21, 14-21.
In weightlifting, Zainab Khatun and Rajkumari won silver and bronze respectively in the women’s 61 kg category. Khatun lifted 85 kg while Rajkumari succeeded in lifting 84 kg.
