Australia overtakes India as the number one team in the world in the ICC Test rankings – Magazine Creations

Despite a seven-wicket win in Cape Town to level the two-match series in South Africa, Australia were ousted from top spot in the ICC Test rankings on Friday.

Australia’s impressive effort in securing an unassailable 2-0 lead over Pakistan at home in the ongoing three-match series has helped them rise in the world rankings. The third match of this rubber is currently taking place in Sydney.

“Australia’s impressive run at home against Pakistan helped them claim the No. 1 Test team crown once again, having last briefly held the position following their win in the WTC final,” the ICC said in a statement.

In the previous update, India had more points in their group despite being tied with Australia with 118 PIRs each.

But the series drawn in South Africa meant India overtook Australia.

“With India drawing the two-Test series against South Africa 1-1 and Australia registering two wins in as many matches against Pakistan, the Pat Cummins-led side now tops the Test rankings,” the ICC said.

“It’s the latest achievement in a year full of them for Australia, alongside their win in the ICC World Test Championship final and their ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup triumph.”

However, India are placed at the top of the World Test Championship points table after winning at Newlands by 54.16 percentage points from four Tests that include two wins, one loss and a draw.

South Africa ranks second, followed by New Zealand in third place and Australia in fourth place, each with 50 percentage points in the World Trade Center table.

“The ongoing third Test between Australia and Pakistan and the upcoming five-match Test series between India and England are likely to spark further activity in the Test team rankings, with a top spot on the line alongside crucial ICC World Test Championship points,” the ICC added. International.
