After days of opposition from top wrestlers of the Wrestling Federation of India, the Sports Ministry on Sunday suspended the newly elected wrestling body for violating norms.

The ministry, on Sunday, also sent a letter to the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) to immediately constitute an ad hoc committee to replace the suspended IOA. Professional wrestlers like Sakshi Mallekh, Bajrang Punia and Geeta Phogat have welcomed the decision, while suspended WFI chief Sanjay Singh has assured to talk to the Center and Prime Minister Modi to change the decision.

– Three days after the election of the new Wrestling Federation of India and its president Sanjay Singh, the Sports Ministry on Sunday suspended the wrestling body on Sunday.

The Ministry also confirmed that the WFI was operating under the full control of its former office holder, which is not in accordance with the National Sports Code.

– After WFI’s suspension, BJP president JP Nadda Brij Bhushan called Charan Singh for a meeting. However, the accused of sexual harassment denied any connection between his meeting with Neda and the suspension of WFI.

Opposition leaders criticized the central government for not supporting female wrestlers, and said that the decision to suspend the International Wrestling Federation was not enough to achieve justice for the protesting female wrestlers.
