Union Minister L Railways Ashwini Vaishnav on Thursday took to social media X (formerly known as Twitter) to share a video of himself with him Jonty Rhodes, Sayed Kermani and Monty Panesar as they embarked on their tour to promote the spirit of sports across the country on the Vande Bharat Express.
Taking to X, the Railway Minister wrote: “Legendary passenger experience on India’s fastest train. #LegendsLeagueCricket Trophy tour departs from Bhopal on Vande Bharat island to cover 50 cities in 17 states.”
The video shows cricketers Monty Panesar, Syed Kirmani and Jonty Rhodes with Union Minister Vaishnau at Rani Kamlapati railway station. It also shows Vaishnaw posing with a cricket bat with the trophy in the background. The team arrived in Delhi from Bhopal today.
Reacting to Indian Railways’ partnership with Legends League Cricket, Jonty Rhodes tweeted, “Partnerships are so important in cricket, at every level, and so I am very grateful to @AshwiniVaishnaw for this amazing partnership that has just begun with @llct20 and @RailMinIndia. #trophytour.”
Apart from players like Rhodes, Kirmani and Panesar, former cricketers like Gautam Gambhir, Suresh Raina, Irfan Pathan, Chris Gayle, Kevin Pietersen, S Sreesanth, Parthiv Patel, Shane Watson, Praveen Kumar and Jhulan Goswami are also part of this initiative. These national and international stars will be on board the Vande Bharat Express that runs across the five railway zones of North, South, Central, East and West, ANI reported.
Earlier on November 6, Legends League Cricket in association with Indian Railways announced a nationwide campaign on the country’s fastest train network. As part of the campaign, the trophy will travel across 17 different states and union territories for 15 days.
“We welcome Legends League Cricket and the legendary players to Vande Bharat and look forward to this amazing journey to promote the sport across the country,” ANI quoted Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw as saying.
“We are proud to partner with Indian Railways and contribute to the promotion of the sport. The game is growing every day at Legends League Cricket. With more and more players joining, we must keep the fire burning and give fans the opportunity to watch the best competitive cricket across new venues…” ANI quoted Ravi Shastri, Commissioner of Legends League Cricket, as saying on Tuesday.
The next season of LLC is scheduled to begin on November 18, with the final match taking place on December 9, 2023.
