
The Indian Olympic Association (IOA) has decided to appoint two flag bearers to lead the Indian team in the opening ceremony of the 2023 Asian Games, an IOA report said. PTI He said on Wednesday.
The IIHF has appointed Indian hockey team captain Harmanpreet Singh and Olympic medal-winning boxer Lovlina Borgohain as flag bearers at the opening ceremony of the Asian Games in Hangzhou on September 23.
“We have reached the decision after a lot of deliberations today,” said Indian Mission Chief Bhupinder Singh Bajwa. PTI. “This time we will have two flag bearers leading the team at the Asian Games – hockey captain Harmanpreet Singh and boxer Lovlina Borgohain.”
A total of 655 Indian athletes are participating in this year’s Asian Games, the largest participation ever.
At the opening ceremony of the Jakarta 2018 Asian Games, javelin throwing star Neeraj Chopra was honored.
Harmanpreet, one of the best drag players in the world, was part of the Indian hockey team that won the historic bronze medal at the Tokyo Olympics.
The Indian men’s hockey team is aiming for a gold medal at the Hangzhou Asian Games to secure automatic qualification for the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Lovlina won a bronze medal at the Tokyo Olympics in the 69 kg category. This year she won the gold medal in the 75kg category at the Women’s World Boxing Championships in New Delhi.
