‘Give him an extension or else…’: Gautam Gambhir on retaining Rahul Dravid as India coach – Magazine Creations

Amid speculation over who will be the next coach of the Indian men’s cricket team, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced a contract extension for current coach, Rahul Dravid after the 2023 World Cup. However, the former India captain is yet to receive an official confirmation regarding the extension. His mandate.

With people talking about who will be the head coach of Team India, former India international Gautam Gambhir has expressed his opinion on who is the most suitable candidate for the job. In his recent interview with Sportskeeda, the former Indian cricketer said that countries like India and Pakistan should be coached by an Indian or a Pakistani. On extending Rahul Dravid as head coach, he said that only an Indian should become the head coach of Team India and not anyone else from another country.

“Countries like India and Pakistan should be coached by an Indian or a Pakistani,” Gambhir told the sports news website, alongside Pakistan legend Wasim Akram. He also said that it should always be an Indian or a Pakistani representing both countries.

He also mentioned how others question his opinion by pointing out that India won the World Cup under the captaincy of Gary Kirsten. In response, he always mentions that foreign coaches may bring their experience to the team, but they may lack that emotional connection with the team and the nation.

“The emotion that Rahul Dravid feels for this blue or white shirt, no foreign coach can feel. The same goes for a Pakistani for this green or white shirt. We have a rich history, we don’t need to look outside. We are not a nation.” Cricket only started 10 or 15 years ago.“We had players who won World Cups for us,” he told Sportskeeda.

While noting the importance of sports, he acknowledged that the business and financial aspects cannot be sidelined when deciding on the Indian national team’s sports coach. However, he continued to stress the importance of emotional angles in sports.

“Emotions are very important in sports. The commercial and financial angles are important, but more important in sports is the emotional angle, where they remember that they shed their blood, sweat and tears when they wore that jersey. If Rahul Dravid wants an extension, give him. Otherwise the Indian He just has to be India’s head coach.”
