‘I want to see Rohit Sharma as captain..’: Gautam Gambhir after reports he is avoiding the shortest format of cricket – Magazine Creations

With reports emerging that Rohit Sharma is unlikely to play T20 Internationals anymore soon, former India international Gautam Gambhir has said that he would like to see both Rohit and Virat Kohli play in the T20 World Cup, scheduled to be held in the West Indies and the United States. America in June 2024.

According to Gambhir, both Rohit and Virat Kohli should be selected for the T20 World Cup. He also added that if they are selected, Rohit should be the captain and not Hardik Pandya.

“Both need to be picked, both need to be picked. Most importantly, I want to see Rohit Sharma as a captain in the T20 World Cup. Yes, Hardik has been a captain in T20Is but I still want to see Rohit as a captain in the T20 World Cup. World Cup.” Don’t pick Rohit Sharma just as a batsman. Rohit is an exceptional captain, and he proved that with his leadership and batting in the ODI World Cup. If you’re picking Rohit, which you should do, you should pick him as a batsman. “A captain who can bat. Virat should also be an automatic option,” Hindustan Times newspaper Gautam Gambhir was quoted as saying in a panel discussion on Sportskidda.

Apart from Gambhir, even legendary Pakistan fast bowler Wasim Akram also shared similar thoughts. “There are just about six months left for the T20 World Cup. I will pick both Rohit and Kohli. They are the key players for the team. You need a little bit of experience even in T20s, and you can’t build a team with just youth,” he said.

What did the reports say about Rohit?

according to PTI In a report issued on November 22, a senior BCCI official said that the 36-year-old India skipper had himself volunteered to stay away from the T20Is.

“It is not a new development. Rohit did not play any T20Is last year as the focus was on the ODI World Cup. He has had extensive discussions with chief selector Ajit Agarkar in this regard. He himself has volunteered to stay away from T20Is. It was absolutely Rohit’s call,” PTI quoted a senior BCCI official as saying.

Rohit has not played a single match in the shortest format since India’s semi-final exit in the T20 World Cup in November 2022, and Hardik Pandya has mostly led the Indian team in T20Is since then.

According to stats, he has played 148 T20Is and scored 3,853 runs at a strike rate of nearly 140 across four centuries. The selectors or BCCI presidents may ask Rohit to reconsider his current position if the younger players fail to perform.

However, it may be understandable that Rohit would want to manage his workload at this stage of his career and ensure that he remains injury-free for the remainder of his career.
