On his ODI debut, that too in the opening match of the 2023 ICC World Cup, against current World Cup champions England, New Zealand’s Devon Conway on September 5 scored a century (152*) at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
In doing so, he became the 16th New Zealand player and the fourth player to score a century on his World Cup debut. He scored the century in just 83 deliveries with 13 deliveries and two sixes.
Apart from Conway, teammate Rasheen Ravindra (123*) also scored 82 tons off the ball on his World Cup debut and became the 17th overall and the fifth Kiwi to achieve the feat.

Looking at the statistics of World Cup centuries on World Cup debut, both Conway and Ravindra share commonalities with legends like Andy Flower of Zimbabwe, Nathan Astle of New Zealand, Gary Kirsten of South Africa, Scott Stairs of New Zealand, Andrew Simmonds of Australia and Virat Kohli from India. All thanks to the tons of Devon Conway and Rashin Ravindra, New Zealand chased down 283 in just 36.2 overs and defeated the defending champions by 9 wickets.
The New Zealand side, who were declared runners-up in the ICC World Cup 2019, have made an exciting start with the bat this time around.
