ICC World Cup 2023: The defending champions England cricket team arrived in India on Thursday ahead of their first friendly match against India on Saturday. In the first match of the ICC World Cup 2023, the finals of the previous World Cup will be recreated as England take on New Zealand on October 5 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. However, the English players faced a host of difficulties before landing in India.

England star Jonny Bairstow shared the ordeal on social media about how the team was waiting to land in Guwahati 38 hours after take-off. In the Instagram Story, the rush is shown on the plane and other members of the England team sit visibly frustrated.

England will compete in various locations across the country, including Dharamsala, Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Lucknow, Ahmedabad, Pune and Kolkata, in eight of their matches. The only exceptions are Chennai and Hyderabad.

Ahead of the first friendly match, England coach Matthew Mott spoke about the team’s preparation and reported that they had chosen the line-up with great flexibility.

“We are close but there is still some time. We do not know how the men will pull out, [it is] Quick turnaround when we land in India. We have a rough idea, it depends on the opponent, whether we are a hitter or a bowler. The team we have chosen gives us great flexibility.

“I do [expect to use more than 13]Because of the places and travel, some players thrive, others don’t do so well. That’s why when you choose a team, you do a lot of “what if?” scenarios.”
