ICC World Cup 2023: New Zealand cricketers on Tuesday met Tibetan spiritual leader the Dalai Lama at his residence at McLeod Ganj in Dharamshala. The visit comes ahead of the New Zealanders’ match with Australia on Saturday, where they will try to bounce back from their defeat to India. The Dalai Lama shared a photo of his meeting with the New Zealand players.
New Zealand have emerged as one of the strongest teams in the ICC World Cup 2023. The Blackcaps maintained their winning spree before arriving at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association (HPCA) stadium, where they faced their first defeat against India. Mohammed Shami bowled a beautiful spell and grabbed 5 wickets to derail New Zealand’s strong batting order while Virat Kohli led a stunning chase to lead India to their fifth successive win in the 2023 ICC World Cup.
“When you start, it is very important that you get a good start for your team. That is your role. I and the other players chose the right areas to bat and got the required bonuses. We bowled in the right areas. We did well to score,” Mohammed Shami said after India’s win. “Block them to an obtainable result and the result is in front of you.”
Rohit Sharma is making history
Indian skipper Rohit Sharma, who was extremely impressive during the tournament, became the first Indian batsman to hit half-centuries of sixes in the ODI format in a calendar year. With 4 sixes against New Zealand, Rohit Sharma’s tally of sixes this year reached 53.
He is close to breaking the record of former South Africa captain AB de Villiers, who smashed 58 sixes in 2015.
