Asian champions India are scheduled to take on Australia in a 3-match ODI series from September 22. This series is crucial as it comes before the ODI World Cup 2023. Team India’s squads for the Indo-Australia ODI series were announced on Monday, and spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has also been named in the squad. Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli will miss the first two ODIs and KL Rahul will lead Team India in the first two ODIs.
Ravichandran Ashwin’s return for the Australia series is interesting because despite not finding a place in the ODI squad for the 2023 World Cup, skipper Rohit Sharma has hinted that deliberations are still on for the spinner and the injury to Axar Patel has increased his chances.
“As an all-rounder, Ashwin is in line. I was talking to him on the phone. There was an injury to Axar at the last minute. Washington was available, so he had to come in and play the role for us,” Rohit was quoted as saying by Hindustan Times.
