India-Pakistan match boosts restaurant business – Magazine Creations

New Delhi : With the cricket craze reaching its peak when India and Pakistan clashed on Saturday, the restaurant industry in major cities saw a huge boost in business.

Restaurant chains such as Massive Restaurants, operator of Farzi Cafe, and other popular chains such as Cafe Delhi Heights, said business was 15-30% higher than a typical weekend, with India starting work around 6pm.

“We had our highest sales ever on Saturday lunch and pre-dinner. Even dinner across the board was much higher due to the festive mood of patrons. This was noticed even in some of our outdoor restaurants which were Shows the match.” The company also runs brands like Pa Pa Ya, Bo-Tai and several others in around 10 cities in India. .

Delhi Heights Café, which has around 20 outlets in the national capital region, saw almost equal share of sales between liquor and food. Moreover, cricket fans continued to patronize the outlets after India’s win.

“This has been a really great boost for us and the excitement surrounding such high-stakes matches has undoubtedly played a significant role in the 16% increase in revenue,” added Udit Bagga, Managing Director of Delhi-based luxury restaurant Kakapoo.

Restaurants are coming up with different events on India’s match dates as well. At Flow microbrewery and pub The Chatter House in Delhi, restaurateur and founder Swadeep Popli said the company will hold a special event next weekend when India clashes with New Zealand in Dharamshala. This will be a ticketed event at his microbrewery and open to about 350 people, with big-screen TVs and fans.

Home deliveries also rose. Rebel Foods, the parent company of Behrooz Biryani, Vasoos, Oven Story Pizza and Wendy’s, recorded a 100% increase in orders on a week-on-week basis. Their ‘Born Blue’ campaign and offers like buy one get one deal at multiple restaurants, as well as biryani kits, have resulted in a significant increase in orders and sales.

Tier-II cities, including Agra, Aligarh, Faridabad, Jabalpur and Rohtak, also saw an increase in sales on its EatSure platform, the company said.
