India vs South Africa 1st T20: Suryakumar Yadav likely to equal Virat Kohli’s stunning record – Magazine Creations

India vs South Africa 1 T20: Suryakumar Yadav, the world’s number one T20 batsman, is all set to lead a young India side in the first T20 ODI against South Africa in Durban. The comprehensive 4-1 win over Australia must have given the new skipper some extra confidence and he will look to lead with the same enthusiasm abroad. Another thing is that Suryakumar Yadav has his eyes on Virat Kohli’s long-term record.

India’s Mr. 360 score is just 15 runs shy of 2,000 runs in T20 international matches. The Indian skipper is likely to surpass the record today and will equal Virat Kohli’s record, as both batsmen have achieved the feat in 56 matches.

This feat is crucial not only because he will stand next to a legendary cricketer but also considering his batting position, someone needs an extraordinary batsman in the middle order to get such numbers. Currently, Pakistanis Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan hold the record for the fastest 2,000 runs in a T20 in 52 matches, but Suryakumar Yadav comes to bat in positions below the three-hitter.

About 60% of Suryakumar Yadav’s runs in T20 came while batting in the middle order and at a strike rate of around 165.

Hardik Pandya injured

The selectors brought in Suryakumar Yadav as captain of the Indian team after senior players like Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli requested some time off from the white-ball format of the game. The next option was Hardik Pandya, but the all-rounder is still recovering from the ankle injury he sustained during the 2023 ICC World Cup.

“Leading the team is a big responsibility and I really enjoyed the T20 series against Australia. I would love to do something similar in South Africa,” Suryakumar Yadav said when asked about replacing Hardik Pandya.

Hardik Pandya’s absence is also a challenge from another perspective as the all-rounder comes in as a crucial option as the sixth bowler. But Suryakumar Yadav sounded confident during the press conference and said, “We have the option of bowling six. There are a lot of people to bowl. When the time is right, you will see. Not just six, there can be seven or seven.” Eight too.”
