India World Cup squad announced today: Will Ashwin take Axar Patel’s place? Rohit Sharma says… – Magazine Creations

The Indian team is set to announce its final squad for the 2023 ICC ODI World Cup today amid doubts over changes in the provisional squad released earlier this month. According to the ICC statement, all teams must finalize their 15-man World Cup squad before September 28 and any substitutions after that will require ICC approval.

“When we talk about the 15 players, we are very clear about what we want. We are not at a loss; we know where we are going as a team. It is a team sport and we want everyone to come and play their part – that is how we win tournaments,” said Rohit Sharma. “It’s about taking care of the body and trying to stay fresh for the next month and a half.”

While most of the players in the 15-member squad are likely to remain unchanged, questions have arisen over finding a place for veteran pacer Ravichandran Ashwin in India’s World Cup squad with Axar Patel currently suffering from a quadriceps strain. However, reports suggest Patel could be ready before the men’s World Cup campaign begins on October 8.

Moreover, Ashwin’s performance in the recently concluded ODI series against Australia has made the selection even tougher. The 37-year-old can add much-needed diversity to India’s bowling line-up which is currently lacking in bowling. Patel, on the other hand, is much better at No. 8, and his performance in the last year or so is attesting to that.

However, Indian captain Rohit Sharma maintained that he is “very clear” about the 15-member squad for the ODI World Cup 2023. While speaking at the post-match presentation on Wednesday, the Indian captain said: “When we talk about the 15-member squad, we are very clear about the 15-member squad for ODI World Cup 2023. “We want to. We’re not at a loss; we know where we’re going as a team. It’s a team sport and we want everyone to come in and play their part – that’s how we win championships. It’s about taking care of the body and the body. Try to stay fresh over the next months and a half.”

He said: “I’m very happy, of course I would like to keep going all the way but if I bat like this I’m happy. In the last 7-8 international matches we’ve played really well, we’ve been challenged under different conditions and different teams, and I think we’ve responded to that challenge.” Well. Unfortunately, it is not the result we wanted today. [on Bumrah] I’m very happy, the most important thing is how he feels in his body, he has great skill, a bad game can happen to anyone. How he feels mentally and physically is key for us and that feels good to us.”
