IPL 2024 Auction: What kind of players are teams aiming for in the mini-auction and why – Magazine Creations

The list of released players has raised some eyebrows as some key players are now willing to bid and franchises will look to make effective bids to grab top talent. amount $Rs 250 crore has been allocated to buy 77 slots and 333 players are scheduled to go up for auction on Tuesday.

Let’s take a look at how each team plans to bid during the IPL 2024 auction:

1. Chennai Super Kings: Defending champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have a portfolio of $31.4 crore and they will look to plug some critical holes in their squad. The team will look at a middle-order batsman to replace veteran Ambati Rayudu and Manish Pandey seems suitable for the position. Moreover, Shardul Thakur was also released ahead of the auction, and given his recent performance in India, CSK will be looking to get their star back.

2. Gujarat Titans: The franchise faces some tough questions after their skipper Hardik Pandya returns to Mumbai Indians. With wallet from $28.95 crore, the team will look to get some experienced players like Priyansh Arya, Harshal Patel, Shardul Thakur, Jos Inglis and Wanendu Hasaranga.

4. Rajasthan Royals: Historically, Rajasthan Royals has consistently identified promising young talent through a rigorous selection process that includes local tournaments and rigorous trials. Individuals who have demonstrated their skills in events such as Syed Mushtaq Ali, TNPL, and UP Premier League are likely to be strongly considered for lucrative opportunities. The team will still look at some batsmen like Sameer Rizvi, Swastik Shikara, Ashutosh Sharma, Abhimanyu Singh and Saurabh Chauhan. they have $14.50 crores in their wallet.

The franchise finds itself with two foreign players remaining, and if they stick to their usual strategy of going with the trend, Rachin Ravindra stands out as a promising prospect.

9. Kolkata Knight Riders: The team has one of the highest purses in the IPL 2024 auction going into it $32.70 crores in hand. The franchise is in dire need of some good pace bowlers and they will look hopefully to players like Mitchell Starc, Pat Cummins, Rashin Ravindra and Harshal Patel. Moreover, there is a need for an Indian all-rounder or Indian striker to fill the void left by Shahbaz Ahmed, who was transferred to Sunrisers Hyderabad through trade.

10. Lucknow Super Giants: LSG will be interested in players like Starc, Hazlewood and South African talent Gerald Coetzee as they want to secure another top-class fast bowling replacement to complement Mark Wood. In the left-arm pace category, the potential picks consist of Nandre Burger and Dilshan Madushanka. Additionally, for uncapped Indian batsmen, the franchise is evaluating Ashutosh Sharma as a potential option. LSG has a portfolio worth Rs 13.15 lakh crore.
