IPL 2024: Rohit Sharma no longer captains Mumbai Indians, Hardik Pandya takes charge – Magazine Creations

Rohit Sharma’s successful 10-year reign as captain of Mumbai Indians came to an end on Friday as the franchise announced that effective from IPL 2024, Hardik Pandya will replace Sharma as MI captain. This announcement was somewhere on the expected line since Hardik Pandya decided to return to Mumbai Indians after leading the Gujarat Titans for two years and winning the IPL title in 2022.

“It’s part of building a legacy and staying true to MI’s philosophy of being prepared for the future. Mumbai Indians have always had exceptional leadership from Sachin to Harbhajan and from Ricky to Rohit, who while contributing to the immediate success have always had a look forward to strengthening the team for the future.” In line with this philosophy, Hardik Pandya will captain Mumbai Indians for the IPL 2024 season,” said Mumbai Indians coach Mahela Jayawardene.

“We are grateful to Rohit Sharma for his exceptional leadership. His tenure as Mumbai Indians captain since 2013 has been nothing short of exceptional. His leadership has not only brought unparalleled success to the team but has also strengthened his position as captain.” “One of the best captains in the history of the Indian Premier League,” Jayawardene added.

This announcement ends a decade of exceptional leadership shown by Rohit Sharma as he led Mumbai Indians to victory in 5 seasons during his 10 years as captain. MS Dhoni equaled the number of crowns after winning IPL 2023 but the CSK skipper has been leading the franchise for 12 years.

T20 World Cup question

Hardik Pandya takes over as the new MI captain and sheds some light on Rohit Sharma’s prospects or intention to lead Team India in the 2024 T20 World Cup which is scheduled to be right after the IPL in June 2024. Rohit Sharma has not spoken officially about his plans but his team indicates the decision to move away from the IPL format. A white-ball performance during South Africa indicated that he is considering his future in the shorter formats of cricket.

According to reports, the BCCI has asked Rohit Sharma to lead India in the 2024 T20 World Cup, but the Indian skipper is yet to reveal his intentions and the T20I series against Afghanistan may provide more clarity on his mindset. In the absence of Rohit Sharma, KL KL and Hardik Pandya are the promising candidates for the captain’s role, and recently Suryakumar Yadav has also shown his great leadership skills, especially in the T20 format of the game.
