“MS Dhoni won a lot of awards but…”: Gautam Gambhir on Dhoni’s performance before the World Cup – Magazine Creations

Every time India wins any tournament, one player is always remembered – the legend MS Dhoni. As the Rohit Sharma-led Indian side thrashed Sri Lanka to win the 2023 Asia Cup by 10 wickets, MS Dhoni was once again remembered this time surprisingly by former Indian opener Gautam Gambhir. While speaking on Star Sports Gautam Gambhir spoke about MS Dhoni’s batting and how he missed many records because he was the skipper and batted low in the order.

“Because of the captaincy, he could not achieve what he could have achieved as a batsman. Often times as a captain, you have to keep the team first. If MS had not been captain, he would have batted at number three. I am sure he could have broken Many ODI records. “He won a lot of trophies, but he sacrificed his international career for trophies at the individual level,” Gautam Gambhir said.

The former Indian opener mentioned that MS Dhoni was a batsman first and then the wicket-keeper which was a boon for Team India.

“Earlier, they were wicket-keepers first and batsmen later, but MS was a batsman first and then a wicket-keeper. He added, “It was a blessing for Indian cricket that in MS Dhoni, we got a wicket-keeper who could win matches from No. 7 because he had that strength “.

India’s peak success under MS Dhoni

Under MS Dhoni’s captaincy, Team India achieved great success in all formats of the game: maintaining the top spot in the Test rankings for a remarkable 18-month period beginning in December 2009, clinching the 50-over World Cup in 2011, and securing the T20 World Championship during his first stint as captain in 2007.

In the ODI format, MS Dhoni played 350 matches for India and made 10,773 runs with a highest score of 183*. He smashed 10 centuries and 73 half-centuries during his ODI career with Team India. In the Test format, MS Dhoni played 90 matches and made 4876 runs. He has 6 centuries and 33 half-centuries in Test cricket with a highest score of 224. In the T20 format, MS Dhoni has made 1617 runs in 98 matches while smashing 2 half-centuries.
