The Nepali men’s cricket team etched their names in history during the ongoing Asian Games cricket tournament in Hangzhou, China. In an impressive display of skill, they broke several records on September 27.
Their record achievements were evident in the confrontation with Mongolia, marking the start of the men’s cricket competition in this continental grouping.
During the match, Nepal showed remarkable prowess, amassing a massive total of 314/3 within the allotted 20 overs. This impressive feat surpasses the previous highest T20I total of 278/3, recorded by Afghanistan against Ireland in 2019.
Moreover, the Nepali batsmen showed their power-hitting abilities by unleashing a staggering 26 runs in one innings. This remarkable feat is now the most sixes by any team in T20I history during a single innings, surpassing Afghanistan’s record of 22 sixes when they scored 278/3 in 2019.
Two remarkable records stand out: the fastest half-century and century in T20I cricket. Dipendra Singh Airee, the Nepalese all-rounder, made his fifty in just nine deliveries, surpassing the 12-ball fifty set by Indian cricket icon Yuvraj Singh during the 2007 ICC T20 World Cup.
That memorable match saw Yuvraj Singh defeat Stuart Broad for six straight sixes in one match. Airee finished his innings with an unbeaten 52 runs off just 10 balls, with a stunning eight of them sailing over the boundary for sixes. His impressive strike rate of 520 also represents the highest in a T20I innings.

Meanwhile, Kushal Malla overtook T20I stars like India’s Rohit Sharma and South Africa’s David Miller to claim the record for fastest T20I century, achieving the feat in just 34 deliveries. Mala’s innings peaked with a score of 137 off 50 balls, featuring eight fours and an impressive total of 12 sixes.
In particular, although Rohit and Miller had previously scored 35 centuries off the ball, Mala’s stunning performance has now surpassed those records as he decimated the Mongolian bowling attack throughout the match, news agency ANI reported.
It is worth noting that Mongolia faced a difficult target of 315 points to secure victory. India’s men’s cricket campaign is scheduled to begin on October 3 with the quarter-finals, with the title match scheduled to be played on October 7.
