Rohit Sharma was asked to compare the World Cup loss and the Test defeat to South Africa; He said… – Magazine Creations

After losing to South Africa in the first Test in Centurion, Rohit Sharma was asked to compare it with India’s loss in the World Cup. The Indian cricket captain did not hesitate to share his thoughts. He drew a clear line between a Test defeat and a World Cup loss. Despite the similarities in the wake of the disappointment, Rohit emphasized the unique significance of each event in world cricket.

“I can’t compare the World Cup to the Test series. Obviously, winning the Test series here would be great and it would be a phenomenal achievement for us. But the World Cup is the World Cup,” Rohit was quoted by ANI as saying. “In my books, they’re both separate. A loss is a loss. Losses are quite disappointing whether it’s a World Cup loss or a loss like that. But the weight of the two tournaments is completely different.”

Rohit added that the second Test in Cape Town will be an opportunity to do better in the series if India can play to their potential. “We can turn things around,” the Indian skipper said, refusing to compare the two losses.

Rohit, along with Virat Kohli, returned to the field for the first time since their World Cup defeat in November. The duo faced a tough Test against South Africa, which culminated in a crushing defeat of India by an innings and 32 runs.

South Africa overtakes India

The Proteas, led by Dean Elgar’s impressive 185, outscored India in all departments. This loss stands in stark contrast to the heartbreak of the World Cup, where Australia won its sixth title.

Kagiso Rabada’s five-wicket haul set the tone for the Test, leaving India struggling from the start. KL Rahul’s lively century was overshadowed by Elgar’s performance. The third day saw Nandre Burger’s killer bowling push the Indian batsmen to their limits, leading to a quick conclusion to the match on the same day.
