‘Ruturaj Gaikwad is not being used enough by Indian cricket’: Ambati Rayudu hints at Rahul Dravid about ‘future captain’ – Magazine Creations

Currently leading the five-match T20I series against Australia by 2-1, Team India’s morale is high. Despite losing in the previous match, the young team under Suryakumar Yadav showed their mettle and placed their bet on the upcoming ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, which will be held on June 5.

In the previous match against Australia, India posted a massive score of 222/3 while batting first in Guwahati, all thanks to a brilliant innings by Ruturaj Gaikwad, who smashed an unbeaten 123 off just 57 balls.

However, Glenn Maxwell’s brilliant 104* ensured Australia chased down the goal on the final ball of the match.

Not only in the third T20 but in the second T20I as well, he scored 58 runs off 43 deliveries. Gaikwad has gained prominence with his consistent performances on the domestic circuit and in the Indian Premier League for Chennai Super Kings.

As for his performance, even his former teammate backed him for a key leadership role.

According to Ambati Rayudu, who recently announced his retirement from the Indian Premier League, Gaikwad is underutilized by Indian cricket at the moment, adding that the latter has the qualities to lead the national team as well.

“For me, (the person) who is underutilized by Indian cricket a lot right now is Ruturaj. He has tremendous talent and I think he is the one guy who should be used more,” Hindustan Times quoted Rayudu as saying on TRS Podcast.

“His greatness lies in his talent. His timing with the ball, his shots, his physicality, his temperament. He has everything to become a world-class cricketer. He is very calm. He knows what he is doing. He has the silent aggression about him. I think he will be a great asset for India.” Yes, it’s too early to say.

“Yes, I hope you know that after Dhoni bhai retires, he will start captaining CSK and after that, I don’t know… maybe he will continue to captain India as well. He has already captained India in the Asian Games,” Rayudu said.

Earlier in the previous month, India had clinched a gold medal in the Asian Games in the T20 format under Gaikwad’s captaincy.
