
India’s stalwart batsman and T20I number one, Suryakumar Yadav, will lead India during the five-match T20I series against Australia at home, from November 23 onwards, the BCCI said in a statement on November 20.
“The Men’s Selection Committee has announced the squad for the upcoming 5-match T20I series against Australia scheduled to begin on November 23, 2023 in Visakhapatnam,” a statement issued by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) said.
As per the schedule, India will take on Australia in Visakhapatnam on November 23 in their first match, just four days after the conclusion of India’s Cricket World Cup campaign on home soil.
The second T20I will be played on November 26 in Thiruvananthapuram followed by the third T20I on November 28 in Guwahati. The fourth match will be held on December 1 in Raipur while the fifth and final match will be held on December 3 in Bengaluru.

The BCCI said that Hardik Pandya will be sidelined due to an ankle injury he suffered during the Cricket World Cup league stage match against Bangladesh.
For this series, Shreyas Iyer will join the team as vice-captain for the last two T20Is in Raipur and Bengaluru. While in the first three T20Is, Ruturaj Gaikwad will be Suryakumar’s deputy.
This time, Sanju Samson did not find a place in the team. While Yashavi Jaiswal, Tilak Varma, Rinku Singh and Jitesh Sharma – who are part of India’s gold medal-winning team at the Hangzhou Asian Games – are also in the squad.
Among the players who featured in this year’s Cricket World Cup and are in the squad are Suryakumar, Shreyas, Ishan Kishan and Bhaker Prasidh Krishna. Seniors Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami are not in the squad.
