U-19 World Cup 2024: ICC announces schedule, India vs Bangladesh to start on January 14 – Magazine Creations

The International Cricket Council (ICC) on September 22 announced the full schedule for the 2024 Under-19 World Cup, which will be held in Sri Lanka from January 13 to February 4.

The tournament will witness the participation of 16 teams – 11 full members and five finalists – who will compete for the title across 41 matches. According to details, the five teams that secured their place in the World Cup through regional qualification routes are Namibia, Nepal, New Zealand, Scotland and USA.

The matches will be played at five historic stadiums in Colombo. The venues are – P. Sara Oval, Colombo Cricket Club, Nondescripts Cricket Club, Singhalese Sports Club, and R Premadasa International Cricket Stadium.

The iconic R Premadasa International Cricket Stadium has been chosen to host the semi-finals on January 30 and February 1, and the final on February 4.

The sporting event begins on January 13 and three matches will be played on the opening day. Host nation Sri Lanka will take on Zimbabwe at the R Premadasa International Cricket Stadium, while 2022 finalists England take on Scotland at the Colombo Cricket Club, and New Zealand take on Nepal at the B Sara Oval.

India will begin their journey by playing against 2020 winners Bangladesh the next day on January 14 at the R Premadasa International Cricket Stadium.

Starting January 24, teams qualified from the group stages will enter a new Super Six stage where two groups of six teams will face off to determine the semi-finalists and subsequent finalists.

In the first group, India joins Bangladesh, Ireland, and the United States of America, while the second group consists of England, South Africa, the West Indies, and Scotland. Group C includes Australia, Sri Lanka, Zimbabwe and Namibia while Group D consists of Afghanistan, Pakistan, New Zealand and Nepal.

Speaking about the schedule announcement, ICC Head of Events Chris Tetley, as quoted by HT, noted, “The ICC Men’s Under-19 Cricket World Cup has a long history of introducing global audiences to the future stars of the sport.” “.

He added: “Virat Kohli, Steve Smith, Kane Williamson and Angelo Mathews are some of the names who have entered the global stage at this event, and we are sure that this tradition continues as the drama unfolds across the 41st tournament.” combinations.”

Each competing team will play two warm-up matches between January 7 and 11, prior to the event. These matches will be held in four of the five tournament stadiums.
