Three U.S. service members were wounded in Iraq on Christmas Day when Kataib Hezbollah terrorists attacked the Erbil Air Base, according to Defense Secretary Lloyd J. Austin.
Austin announced late Monday night that U.S. forces “conducted necessary and proportionate strikes on three facilities used by Kataib Hezbollah and affiliated groups in Iraq.”
“These precision strikes are in response to a series of attacks against US personnel in Iraq and Syria by Iranian-backed militias, including an attack by Iran-linked Kataib Hezbollah and affiliated groups on Erbil Air Base earlier today, and are intended to disrupt and degrade the capabilities of the Iran-aligned militia groups directly responsible,” Austin said in a press release.
