Virat Kohli likely to be left out of T20 World Cup squad as BCCI eyes this player at No. 3: Report – Magazine Creations

T20 World Cup 2024: Virat Kohli has been India’s best bowler for the last 15 years and is expected to surpass the legendary Sachin Tendulkar in almost all cricket records. In the ICC World Cup 2023 as well, Virat Kohli showcased his class and slammed a career-high 765 runs in the format that included 3 centuries. However, a recent report by news platform Dainik Jagran said that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is unsure about Virat Kohli’s place in the 2024 T20 World Cup, scheduled to be held in June next year.

Team India skipper Rohit Sharma, coach Rahul Dravid and selection committee chairman Ajit Agarkar had a 5-hour meeting with BCCI officials about plans for the 2024 T20 World Cup scheduled in the USA and West Indies. One obvious problem they have is that Team India is playing very less number of T20 matches ahead of the World Cup.

India is scheduled to start its series in South Africa with three T20 internationals from December 10 and then the team will play three T20Is against Afghanistan in India. Senior players like Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Hardik Pandya and Jasprit Bumrah will stay away from the T20 series in South Africa.

Ishan Kishan is on number 3

The report also said that BCCI is considering fielding Ishan Kishan at number three, which Virat Kohli plays. The BCCI official present at the meeting told Dainik Jagran that they want someone who can play attacking cricket at number three, and Ishan Kishan has shown that several times.

Virat Kohli can certainly make room for himself if he plays brilliantly in the Indian Premier League (IPL), but the only problem is that he opens up space for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), a position where BCCI is clear about retaining any By Shubman Gill. Or Yashasvi Jaiswal with skipper Rohit Sharma.

Rohit Sharma to lead?

After Rohit Sharma asked for a break from the white-ball format in the South Africa series, rumors were rife that the Indian skipper is considering stepping down from the short-form formats of the game. But, according to sources, the BCCI has asked Rohit Sharma to lead India in the T20 World Cup.
