“The (ad hoc) committee is aware of the concerns raised by young wrestlers (during the protest) and is committed to addressing these issues. The committee plans to organize national championships for the U-15 and U-20 categories within the next six weeks,” said Bhupinder Singh Bajwa, chairman of the three-member committee. At LNIPE, Gwalior.

The committee advised the young wrestlers to continue training and practicing for the upcoming events, and the ad hoc committee assured the budding wrestlers that the U-15 and U-20 national championships will be held in February 2024 in Gwalior, the details of which will be announced soon. .

The committee said that in a short week it has already taken several initiatives for “the growth and development of wrestling in India, and to promote a culture of excellence and perseverance.”

The committee said it has already selected a 13-member Indian team to participate in the upcoming premier ranking series, Zagreb Wrestling Open, being held in Zagreb, Croatia, from January 10-14.

The committee said that it has set the date for holding the national championship for seniors in February 2024

The committee also said that it has scheduled to organize national camps for senior wrestlers at SAI NRC Sonepat for men and SAI NSNIS Patiala for women, to prepare for the Olympic qualifying tournaments and the Asian Senior Championships.

The committee added that the Asian Olympic qualifiers are scheduled to be held in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, from April 19 to 21, 2024, while the World Olympic qualifiers are scheduled to be held in Istanbul, Turkey, from May 9 to 12.

The country’s wrestling activities were badly hit after protests by the country’s top three wrestlers – Bajrang Punia, Sakshi Malik and Vinesh Phogat – against former IBF president Brij Bhushan Charan Singh.
